Old Town Goleta – what most longtime residents just call "downtown," centered along Hollister Avenue – doesn't try to compete with Santa Barbara's State Street for size or polish. That's part of its appeal. It's walkable, low-key and packed with family-run restaurants that have been beloved by the locals for decades. If you're new to the area, here's a practical starting point.

       Getting your Bearings

Old Town Goleta runs along Hollister Avenue, roughly between Fairview Avenue and Kellogg Avenue, with most of the restaurants, shops and cafes within easy walking distance of each other.

Where to Eat & Drink

Pepe's Mexican Restaurant https://pepesgoleta.com/ has been serving Goleta since 1958, making it the longest-running Mexican restaurant in town. Expect a relaxed, family atmosphere, a cozy heated patio and a full bar.

La Tapatia https://latapatiagoleta.com/ is a solid bet for made-to-order Mexican classics – mole, enchiladas, sopes and tacos – with tortillas made fresh in-house daily. They open early, from 6am.

Yummy Thai Restaurant https://www.yummythaigoleta.com/ keeps Goleta’s Thai food tradition going, with fresh curries, noodles and a full vegetarian-friendly menu.

Old Town Coffee https://www.oldtowncoffee.com/ is Goleta’s go-to for coffee, with reliable WiFi, plenty of outlets and both indoor and patio seating. This is where the locals go to get caffeinated – and connected to the community.

Santa Barbara Cider Company https://www.sbcider.com/ is a Goleta-founded hard cider brewery open Thursday through Sunday evenings. The vibes are immaculate – and available four days a week. Check current hours of operation before you go; it’s currently open Thursday through Sunday.

Why Renters Need to Check their Address

Proximity to Old Town is one of the more underrated factors in apartment hunting in Goleta. It's easy to focus on commute time to work or school and forget to ask, "What’s nearby that I’ll enjoy?”

Cortona Point Apartments is located close enough to Downtown Goleta – about a six-minute drive –  that a quick trip to Old Town for dinner or coffee is a realistic weekday option rather than a special-occasion excursion.
